They’re Here! Meet the Baby Quail
Share
Big news from Cromer Farm—our quail have hatched, and they’re already a week old! Tiny, fast, and full of personality, these little fluffballs are already ruling the brooder box.
Watching them grow has been amazing. They went from freshly hatched chicks to zipping around like mini jet engines in a matter of days. Fun fact: quail chicks are precocial, which means they’re up, moving, and feeding themselves just hours after hatching. It’s wild how independent they are right from the start!
Among our new arrivals are the stunning celadon quail, who will one day lay those gorgeous pale blue eggs. They’re already easy to spot with their slightly lighter coloring. Another fun quail fact? Adult quail can lay up to 300 eggs a year—so we’re in for a treat once these little ones grow up!
The incubator guardians—my two nieces—are very proud of their work and already asking when we can hatch more. (We might have created two future poultry farmers.)
For now, it's all about keeping the chicks warm, well-fed, and safe. Stay tuned—next up: bantams and Brahmas!
