Have we found a long lost pear variety??
Share
A few weeks ago a lovely gentleman who claimed to be a pear expert came over to the farm looking for a long lost variety of pear. It's supposedly on the smaller side and has a red skin and originates in Gloucestershire.
The farm boasts a very old orchard full of many different varieties of apple and pear trees but I must confess I'm only confident enough to name 25% of the varieties.
We directed the gentleman down to the orchard and after 30 minutes he came back with pockets full of little red pears. The ancient crumbling book he brought with him had several illustrations that looked about right. He has taken the pears away for DNA testing and we are excited to hear the results!
